The idea of a Special School Games was brought about by our Ambassador, Charlie. She posed the idea to Active Essex who agreed to support her.  In 2015, the first Special School Games was held at the Basildon Sporting Village in Essex.

Prior to the event, children discussed their ideas for the Games at a local Multi Schools Council meeting. On the day, they had the chance to compete in a range of sports from new-age kurling to basketball.  It also gave them the valuable opportunity to meet children from a variety of different schools and backgrounds.

We want every special school in Essex represented at these games.  We also want as many young people as possible to help run the day in order to help build their leadership skills.

Our talent show was started in 2016.  The idea was born at a Multi Schools Council meeting after one of our Ambassadors, Toby presented the idea.  He was really keen for people of all abilities to peform on a stage where they couldn't be discriminated against.
Since 2016, we have held an annual talent show.  This has provided children and young people from both mainstream and special schools with an opportunity to improve their confidence through showcasing their talents.

In the summer of 2017, we held our first Community Fair. Again, this idea was generated by two of our Ambassadors, Luke and Charlie.  The fair was an opportune event that engaged the community, helped to raise awareness of our project and brought together people from a variety of backgrounds.
