Expert by experiences
Experts by Experience (EbE) play a crucial role in shaping SEND services. To apply for this role you will have lived experience of SEND as child and / or young person. Through this role you will use your unique perspective to:
- Empower and De-Stigmatize: EbyE individuals are uniquely positioned to educate and de-stigmatize SEND issues. By sharing their personal journeys, they help break down barriers and promote understanding. Their stories demonstrate that those with lived experience are capable, creative, and insightful1.
- Support improved Service Planning and Development: EbE individuals actively participate in planning and developing SEND services. Their input ensures that services are relevant, effective, and compassionate.
- Support Partnerships and Mutual Respect: EbE foster productive relationships between practitioners and CYP. This includes one-on-one interactions, training, workshops, and strategic collaborations.
- Provide evidence for Inspections and Decision-Making: During inspections, EbE individuals speak to inspectors about their role in shaping services.
Experts by experience have planned work as part of the SEND improvement program. They can also be commissioned for specific work across the Hertfordshire SEND local partnership; This can be arranged through the Hertfordshire Participation Lead, Sarah Stevens, Tel: 01438 845027 Email: Sarah.Stevens2@hertfordshire.gov.uk
